JEWELRY CARE

SILVER

Silver has been known and valued as a precious metal since ancient times and has been used in the making of jewelry as well as ornaments, coins and high value tableware. It has the chemical symbol Ag and is described as a soft white lustrous metal.

In it's purest form, silver is too soft for jewelry so it is alloyed with copper in a ratio of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper to produce what is known as 925 Sterling Silver. Copper gives the sterling silver strength without spoiling the beauty of it and at the same time it preserves it's flexibility.

Sterling silver should bear the hallmark 925.

Silver has always been popular for the making of jewelry and although classed as a precious metal, it is much more affordable than other metals such as gold. As gold prices have continued to rise dramatically over recent years, silver jewelry has become much more popular.

SILVER CARE

Over time oxidation reactions can occur in silver jewelry, especially with sulphur and oxygen, causing silver to become tarnished. Wearing and handling will slow the oxidation process and keep your silver polished, shiny and beautiful.

CLEANING METHOD

Give your jewelry a polish after wearing with a silver polishing cloth before you place it in its bag. The cloth is treated with cleaning chemicals and not only will it last a long time; it will give you an amazing shine each and every time.

Dip cleaners will work, but once you have started the process you will find your silver will tarnish easily.

Any stones set in your silver jewelry may be damaged from the dip solution too.

We do not recommend cleaning your jewelry with toothpaste and a toothbrush, as this will scratch the silver.

STORAGE

Minimize tarnish as well as scratches by storing your jewelry in individual small bags, as well as separate compartments in your jewelry box.
